A Claude Code skill that validates Shopify app ideas against real-world merchant needs, competitive landscape, and earning potential — before you invest weeks building something nobody installs.

What It Does

Think of it as a seasoned Shopify ecosystem investor reviewing your app pitch. The skill:

1. Asks clarifying questions about your target merchant and pain point
2. Conducts deep market research across Shopify Community forums, Reddit, Twitter, the App Store, Google Trends, and Shopify Editions changelog
3. Analyzes competition — identifies top competitors, their ratings, pricing, and what merchants complain about
4. Maps features to merchant problems with MVP/Post-Launch/Future prioritization
5. Recommends monetization — pricing tiers, free-to-paid triggers, revenue projections
6. Scores viability across 8 dimensions (Market Demand, Competition, Revenue Potential, Build Feasibility, Defensibility, Timing, etc.)
7. Delivers a verdict — BUILD IT, BUILD IT BUT..., PIVOT, or DON'T BUILD THIS
8. Generates a full report saved as a structured markdown file

The default stance is skepticism-first. It looks for reasons the idea will NOT work before confirming reasons it could. A "don't build" recommendation that saves you weeks is more valuable than false encouragement.

Usage

In Claude Code, just describe your Shopify app idea:

• "I want to build a Shopify app that..."
• "Is this Shopify app worth building?"
• "Validate my Shopify app idea"
• "Should I build this Shopify app?"
• "Who are the competitors for X on Shopify?"

The skill triggers automatically and walks you through the full validation process.

Builder Profile

The skill assumes you are a solo developer, bootstrapped, building with Claude Code, targeting sustainable MRR with a 2-4 week MVP timeline. If your situation is different, just tell it — it adjusts.

Kill Criteria

The skill checks 7 hard no-go signals and flags them immediately:

1. Shopify is building it natively
2. Top 3 competitors all have 4.5+ stars and 500+ reviews
3. No evidence of merchant complaints or requests
4. Revenue ceiling too low
5. Requires expensive external dependencies
6. The problem is too niche (<5K stores)
7. No clear free-to-paid upgrade trigger

Example Output

The skill generates a comprehensive validation report including:

• Competitive landscape table with ratings, reviews, pricing
• Feature roadmap (MVP / Post-Launch / Future)
• Revenue projections at 100, 500, and 1,000 installs
• 8-dimension viability scorecard with weighted scoring
• Clear GO/NO-GO recommendation with cited evidence
• Sources appendix for independent verification
