Materials for the data-driven engineering course at ULB.
We will use Google Colab to run Python code on a remote machine, which includes GPUs and TPUs. To use Colab you only need a Google account. Follow these instructions to check if everything works:
- Go to Google Colab.
- Click on Github.
- Search burn-research/data-driven-engineering-course2026.
- Click on test_colab.ipynb.
- Click on File/Save a copy in Drive.
- Click on 'Run all'.
If you encounter any problem, you can contact us.
- Alberto Procacci (Alberto.Procacci@ulb.be)
- Dimitri Hanssens (Dimitri.Hanssens@ulb.be)
- Maxime Jongen (Maxime.Jongen@ulb.be)
- Lounia Fossion (Lounia.Fossion@ulb.be)
You can contact us either by email or Teams.
During the exercise sessions, we strongly advise you against using generative AI, because it would entirely defeat its purpose. For the project, it would be best to use generative AI to help you write the code rather than to build everything from scratch.
Project assignments are available here. Read carefully the assignments.
You will find the proposed tasks, datasets and research questions here. Please note that you can also suggest your own project, provided that it includes at least two major machine‑learning techniques seen during the course.
You can ask for the solution of future exercise sessions if you need it for the project.
Warning
First deadline: 6 April:
You must send to alberto.procacci@ulb.be by April 6th a half-page document including: the group members, your chosen toy dataset, the real-world dataset, and your research question for approval. This first deadline is mandatory but will not be part of the evaluation per se.
