Utility
Goal is to be able to separate the two types of topologies below (shower and track respectively):

To do this, exclude the "satellite" features (smaller, unmerged clusters) and focus on the body of the object. Various parameters of the contour and its (minimum) bounding box were examined for track-shower separation potential. Below are some failed parameter combinations(there are many other failed combinations of these params that are unlisted); showers are blue, tracks are red:

This algorithm calculates the max and min width of a contour along the length of the bounding box, as shown here:

and then divides them (MaxWidth/MinWidth), as shown below:

For MaxWidth / MinWidth > 3, we snag 88% of shower sample and 18% of track sample. We want to do better--potential future improvements include incorporating PCA analysis (e.g. branching).
