Dr Joe Heffer

I'm a Senior Research Data Engineer at the University of Sheffield, where I collaborate with researchers across all disciplines to design software, manage research data, and build analytical pipelines. My doctoral research was in physics and I have a background in analytics and data science. My interests lie in the application of machine intelligence to accelerate scientific discovery and scholarship.

My work typically involves:

  • Software engineering and data analysis in Python and R
  • Systems design and data engineering, including databases and data pipelines
  • Supporting the acceleration of research through the application of artificial intelligence
  • Engineering mentorship and project leadership
