Reviving a headphone amplifier design I originally built in the mid-2000s.

๐Ÿ”น Background

Around 2007, I became interested in headphone amplifiers and spent time experimenting with different circuits on breadboards. I explored various amplifier classes, output stages, and design approaches while learning analog audio electronics.

Although I built several working prototypes, I never finalized the design on a PCB. Soon after, most of my projects were packed away as I entered the working world and had less time to continue developing them.

Though I no longer have the original schematics or notebooks, I was lucky to still have part of the original prototype preserved on a breadboard, which now provides a starting point for reconstructing the design.

๐Ÿ”น Today

Nearly 20 years later, I'm revisiting the project to:

  • Reconstruct the original circuit.
  • Improve and expand the design.
  • Create a polished and documented release.

This repository documents that process.

If you found this project useful, interesting, or worth keeping an eye on, consider giving it a โญ๏ธ. It helps others discover the project and motivates me to keep building and sharing more.

๐Ÿ”น Construction

Before removing the components to reuse the breadboards for Patchworks in 2023, I photographed the circuit and recently used the image to reverse engineer the schematic. From memory, this appears to represent only part of one channel of the full circuit, and some components (such as the input and output capacitors) had already been removed.
