This upgrade to Jackson 2.21.1 is a minor version update but includes the removal of deprecated APIs in version 2.20.0.

Breaking Changes:

  • Removed PropertyNamingStrategy Implementations: Several PropertyNamingStrategy implementations that were deprecated since version 2.12 have been removed in 2.20.0. If your application uses any of these legacy naming strategies, you will need to update your code to use their modern equivalents.

Other Changes:

  • Java 8 Baseline: The jackson-annotations module now requires Java 8. This is unlikely to have an impact as most environments have long migrated past Java 7.
  • No Behavioral Changes in 2.21: The release notes for version 2.21.0 explicitly state there are no behavioral or data type compatibility changes.

Source: Jackson 2.20 Release Notes, Jackson 2.21 Release Notes

Recommendation: Before merging, verify that your codebase does not use any of the removed PropertyNamingStrategy implementations from version 2.20.
