[BUG] Second port on multi-camera adapter board produces front-end timeout error

Using Pi Zero 2 W with two imx219 cameras on the four camera adapter board.

I went through all of the quick start steps, including editing the config file to support the multi camera adapter.

When I list out connected cameras, the camera at port A on the adapter is assigned to camera 1, and port B is assigned to camera 0. When I setup camera 1 to stream to my pc via vlc, everything works as expected. The second I change it to use camera 0, I get the following error:

I've tried setting the timeout delay to 10000ms as suggested on similar posts, and I've also tried swapping the cameras between the ports, I get the exact same error.

Hi, unfortunately these adapter boards are not Raspberry Pi products and I don't really know anything about them. Obviously the first thing to do is check that all your cameras and cables work in isolation, but it sounds like you've already done that. Also maybe worth looking in dmesg in case there are any camera-related errors there.

I'll ping @6by9 as he knows more about such things than I do, but failing that the standard advice with third party products would be to go back to the vendor in question for support. Sorry not to be more help.

I'm guessing you're referring to Arducam's Multi Camera Adapter Module. Whenever it isn't a product made by Raspberry Pi it's worth providing full details and a link.

"Camera frontend has timed out" means that the camera has been told to stream over I2C, but no MIPI image data has been received within the timeout period.

I happen to have just tested 4 IMX708 modules on one of those boards this morning, and it works fine. I'm therefore fairly confident there is no fundamental issue with it.
I'll agree with davidplowman that testing camera module directly into the Pi to check that the module itself is working correctly would be sensible. It is also possible to use the Multi Camera Adapter Module with the camera modules connected to any connector, as long as the relevant camX-imx219 overrides are used, so connect to port C and use cam2-imx219 instead of cam1-imx219 and see if that is any better.
