ScummVM Game Enviroment Variable

Feature Request

I've been using Luxtorpeda to play Maniac Mansion natively on Linux with the latest version of ScummVM, but the game boots into the ScummVM game menu every time. I have been able to use the fan remake Maniac Mansion Deluxe this way by selecting it from the menu, but the interface shows up every time I launch the game on Steam.

Solution

I noticed that Roberta had a LUX_SCUMMVM_GAME variable to select a game id to start when launched. I tried using this in Steam but didn't have any luck. Having that variable or something similar in the modern Luxtorpeda client would be useful for games like Maniac Mansion that have multiple versions included, or if a user wants a custom version of the game to be used.

To make sure I understand, this is basically asking if there's a way for scummvm to launch directly into a game instead of showing the window first?

Exactly that, I tried finding any variable to make ScummVM boot directly into a game without showing the menu. Is this implemented already and I just couldn't figure it out?

It looks like this happened because of this:

I could probably add support for this flag, so you could do something very similar if that makes sense.

Detecting exactly what we want to launch would be a bit more difficult since scummvm is used by so many different games.

I think that having the user specify the ScummVM game id in the launch options and having that be passed on to ScummVM would work pretty well for all of the games used by it. It would add another step to get a seamless experience, but as long as it's in the documentation it would be simple.

I guess that each game could also have a preset game id for each of the different titles, but that would have to be figured out for every single game that can be run with ScummVM through Luxtorpeda. And for games that have multiple different versions such as Maniac Mansion, there would still need to be a way to specify which one is to be launched.

In either case, having a option similar to LUX_SCUMMVM_GAME would be enough to alleviate the main problem.

I've added the option to scummvm, where you can set LUX_SCUMMVM_GAME in the launch options.
