offsession Worklog


Task ID: 1 Agent: Main Agent Task: Complete implementation of offsession

Work Log:

  • Set up Prisma database schema with Adventure and GameState models
  • Created API routes for adventures CRUD operations (/api/adventures)
  • Created API routes for game state management (/api/game/[sessionId])
  • Built main page with adventure list view
  • Built create adventure page with YAML editor and validation
  • Built gameplay view with inventory display, scene rendering, and dice gates
  • Built DM Dashboard with sessions view, flowchart, and YAML tabs
  • Implemented all 5 pixel-art themes (Neon Mana Circuit, Sol-Arcana Ledger, Prism Spark Sanctuary, Mana-Punk, Gilded Relic)
  • Added dice rolling system with inventory item integration (reroll/bonus items)
  • Installed dependencies: js-yaml, bcryptjs, nanoid, mermaid

Stage Summary:

  • Complete Next.js application with all required features
  • Database schema supports adventures and game states with JSON fields
  • Theme system using CSS variables for easy customization
  • Pixel art aesthetic with custom fonts (Press Start 2P, VT323, Silkscreen)
  • Dice rolling with DC checks and item modifiers
  • DM dashboard for session management and adventure editing

Task ID: 2 Agent: Main Agent Task: Remove global password and add local storage for user adventures

Work Log:

  • Removed global admin password requirement from /api/adventures route
  • Added local storage functionality to store user's created adventures
  • Created "My Adventures" section on homepage showing locally stored adventures
  • Added copy link button for adventure sharing
  • Added delete from local storage functionality
  • Created larger demo adventure "The Forgotten Citadel" with 20+ scenes
  • Widened layouts from max-w-6xl to max-w-7xl for better use of screen space
  • Made create adventure page use 2/3 layout for YAML editor

Stage Summary:

  • Anyone can now create adventures without a global password
  • User's created adventures are saved to local storage for easy access
  • Demo adventure is much larger with multiple paths and endings
  • Layouts are wider and more responsive (supports xl:grid-cols-4)

Task ID: 3 Agent: Main Agent Task: Fix bug where exits couldn't be clicked when starting a game

Work Log:

  • Identified root cause: POST /api/game route wasn't returning canUse property on exits
  • Since frontend checked !exit.canUse to disable buttons, undefined canUse caused all buttons to be disabled
  • Fixed API to include canUse property by calling checkExit() for each exit
  • Added defensive frontend fix: default canUse to true if undefined
  • Created comprehensive unit tests (30 tests) covering:
    • Dice notation parsing and rolling
    • Game state initialization
    • Exit visibility logic
    • Exit usage requirements checking
    • API response validation

Stage Summary:

  • Bug fixed: exits are now clickable when starting a game
  • API now consistently returns canUse property on all exits
  • Unit tests ensure core game logic works correctly
  • Frontend has defensive fallback for missing properties

Task ID: 4 Agent: Main Agent Task: Implement visual enhancements and game features

Work Log:

  • Added one_shot option to YAML schema (defaults to true)
  • Implemented dice roll builder with:
    • Modifier buttons (-5, -1, +1, +5)
    • Advantage/disadvantage toggles (2d20kh1 / 2d20kl1)
    • addModifier, applyAdvantage, applyDisadvantage functions
  • Created CSS animations for:
    • Dice rolling (shake, bounce, reveal, glow)
    • Button loading (progress bar fill effect)
    • Suspense buildup and dramatic pause
  • Added pixelated border styles using clip-path
  • Added status badge styles (completed, in-progress, new)
  • Updated demo YAML template to include:
    • 2 reroll items (Lucky Coin, Second Chance)
    • 2 bonus items (Flash of Genius, Warrior's Blessing)
  • Updated unit tests to cover new dice features (24 tests)
  • Updated API routes to handle one_shot sessions

Stage Summary:

  • All requested CSS animations and styles implemented
  • Dice module supports advantage/disadvantage mechanics
  • Game API enforces one_shot (single session per adventure)
  • Demo adventure includes 4 helper items (2 rerolls, 2 bonuses)
  • 24 unit tests passing
