Unclear what the model name is for iPod 5.5

My iPod is a video 5.5. Documentation only lists classic, or nano as model options

@DuncanGJ could you please help me understand the state of your SysInfo file? I'm kinda hoping it's missing, because that supports my hypothesis that iFlash devices tend to lack this data.

Could you also let me know the capacity of your iPod and whether or not your Mac will auto-mounts the device, or you have to use a workaround?

sure, I think you're totally correct. My Sys info just contains the following line:

pszSerialNumber: RAND-23993156

which is incredibly malformed. The SysInfoExtended appears to be correct and untouched though. In terms of mounting. It mounts automatically and shows up as an iPod. It has 128gb of storage.

The plot thickens! This is the most pressing issue to solve. Need to work out if it's vital repair this data or if reading the USB vendor and product ID is enough to work with an iPod.

The facts are that Apple syncing software can read the USB data and identify and work with an iPod without this file, but the core library used by podkit expects the SysInfo to be good. Also, I have experienced that Apple software can sometimes complain that my device is corrupt and needs re-initialising - but I think this is a case of an iPod having corrupt SysInfo and it's an unexpected high capacity iFlash device. I'm leaning towards repairing the SysInfo as an end goal for podkit is to be able to format and initialise a device.

I'm currently working on speccing improved podkit device scan and podkit doctor commands which should highlight this issue. Would love for you to test that when it's done - maybe backup your corrupt config for later.

If you want to repair this manually you can update the file with your model number. This should unblock you to be able to get a better syncing experience. You get to dogfood the incredibly weird edge case of an iPod changing model between syncs 😅. You should be able to drop all tracks and start fresh if syncing doesn't handle that gracefully.
