What are your thoughts on pairing a public inbox app for patches with smithy?

I don't know about Honza, but I'm working on a mailing software, which aims to be as simple/minimal as possible, specially to pair with my hosted smithy instance. But I didn't thought other people were interested on this, so would like to hear Honza's thoughts as well.

I'm more interested in knowing what people's workflows are for using smithy to receive patches/contributions for a project.

I was thinking of self-hosting sourcehut, for example, but I think smithy would be a better solution given that I don't need the entire sourcehut suite of apps and I think smithy would probably be a cleaner more minimal solution.

@pedrolucasp what is the mailing software that you are working on?

I just allow people to send me patches via email. Yes, the patch will not be public, but the contribution, if accepted, will be there on the project, so I usually don't mind.

I'm attempting to write a tool that leverages postfix and exposes on web, with a nice clean interface, but I'm going slow.

Thanks @honza I've actually become quite familiar with how sr.ht manages incoming patches (more or less) and how it all works in general. I'm still not 100% convinced its the best way, but oh well 🤷‍♂️
