Thank you for pointing out the problem.
The Apple Color Emoji font is being updated day by day, such as Skin Tone Selector or Family Emoji with Zero Width Joiner, so this package is quite outdated now. There may be many more problems with this package other than this issue.
I recommend that you consider the adoption of BXcoloremoji package, which is an extended version of my package.
