Of course it possible, but this will reduce security a bit. Facebook, Google, and GitHub etc. have sessions that never expire but we can't compare with them, because they have other things to observe at all times besides the session (eg. new IP, change critical data).

Well, the session doesn't need to be maintained "forever", but having to paste the long and secure password multiple times a day because the browser or browser tab was closed, is a but over the top.

How about a compromise where we add a checkbox to let the user decide if they'd like to stay logged in?
