Hi, when double clicking the dmg file to install on mac, the window just displays the NotepadNext icon but not the Applications folder for me to drag and drop the app. Tried v0.12 and v0.11.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Download .dmg
2. Open file

this could be fixed, but to solve your issue at the moment, you can do it manually:

• open a new finder window (CMD + N)
• go to Applications on the sidebar
• drag NotepadNext
• double-click to open

if it prompts you with this error:

Apple could not verify “NotepadNext” is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy.

• click Done on the error window
• go to System Settings > Privacy & Security
• Scroll down; near the bottom you should see something like:
  “NotepadNext” was blocked from use because it is not from an identified developer
  with a button Open Anyway - click it and you'll be fine from now

What's the actual fix? Is there something that could be done in the application? Or does this require paying Apple money as usual?

I just used Homebrew to install it, which worked like a charm.

brew tap dail8859/notepadnext
brew install --no-quarantine notepadnext

I've been working on a solution, not yet finished...
for some reason the background image I created doesn't show but there is a shortcut to the Applicaitons folder so it's 90% done :)

I had a similar issue and found simply going into the privacy settings and then allow app. I do agree this does need to be fixed, as TextMate was my goto for text editing on Mac, but it has not had any updates since 2021.

I'm unable to start and run the app.
After allowing app from Privacy & Security, app opening keeps bouncing for a while, then it stops bouncing as if it's open, but it never starts, it doesn't show the "white dot" underneath either, but right-clicking it shows it as hang (App is not responding) and lets force-close it.
I've never ever had been able to start it.
Tried both install methods (.dmg and brew), same issue.
Tahoe 26.4.1

I prefer to build it myself for macOS—especially for Intel—because the developers don’t prioritize it. In most cases, it only requires minor adjustments to the GitHub Actions build configuration, but they simply don’t put in the effort. They don’t seem to care about macOS support.

@alsyundawy The pull request you submitted was a complete AI mess that introduced way too many changes I did not want to support. I will gladly except help with Mac support but not at the cost of becoming a maintenance headache.

@dail8859 Why don’t you try building for macOS yourself using GitHub Actions? You won’t know what works until you actually test it. In my experience, it doesn’t require rewriting your entire codebase—just a few targeted adjustments are enough to get it running smoothly across macOS versions, from Big Sur (macOS 11) up to Tahoe.
