Should be easier to contribute

To better allow (and hopefully encourage) contribution we should make it easier for developers of all experience to contribute.

At this time I believe to close this issue we need to:

• Simplify and explain any necessary steps for someone with no previous Go experience to get started
• Add details about the contribution process, specifically calling out the role of issues and pull requests
