i'm not sure if this is a bug, but it is a bit frustrating. for high level effects it necessitates giving the armor ludicrous durability just for the effect to be active for more than half of the armor's lifetime.
especially given the "instant" part of the name, i think it might be better if the effect became active in the same tick as the armor, as if casting a zenith. it would allow for more creative and efficient uses of the armor, like using hexchanting or hierophantics to deliver quick effects, well, instantly, to react to danger.
edit to add: further testing shows that the armor itself doesn't seem to equip in the same tick either! attempting to use instant aegis to reduce incoming damage using a hexchanting chestplate doesn't work at all. it'd be pretty neat if it did!
