Are zlib and tsf redundant..?

Hi,

Sorry, I haven't followed the development of the suite. I just look a really quick look at the profile for both these benchmarks and I was wondering what they're supposed to be demonstrating, performance wise?

It looks like the hot jitted code for both does little more than load a byte, perform some simple arithmetic compare and/or store the result. TSF is at least larger than zlib, but neither of them look 'interesting' from a code generation point of view.

Do they test browsers in a way in some other way?

EDIT: sqlite3 also looks similar.

Some results:

• Spidermonkey and V8 are 10% faster than JSC on zlib
• V8 is 20% faster than Spidermonkey on tsf
• Spidermonkey is 18% faster than JSC on sqlite3 (V8 is even faster)

So the tests do seem to show real differences in performance between the different engines.
