Controller input causes players to switch seats

bug : analog sticks and triggers move you around

expected : analog sticks and triggers dont move you around

how to recreate : get a controller and use gmod's native controller support, get in a vehicle (like the glide bus) and move the analog sticks or press the triggers. you will move to a different seat or hear the cannot use sound.

i found that :
Lright = seat 1
Lleft = seat 2
Ldown = seat 3
Lup = seat 4
LTR = seat 5
RTR = seat 6
Rright = seat 7
Rleft = seat 8
Rdown = seat 9
surprisingly, Rup does not goto seat 10 or even try a seat.

If you reconfigure the key, does it work again or not at all?

For me, it works. The only thing I did was reconfigure my controller directly on Steam so that it simulates walking properly.

Configuration :

1. Press "View controller settings"

2. Press "Edit Layout"

3. Go to Joysticks (default key for moving forward) and change the predefined keys and set the one for qwerty.

@Vitroze I'm pretty sure he does not want to use Steam Input because he's trying to have analog controls (Steam Input "translates" those analog controls to on/off buttons)

The thing is, the default controller support on gmod (the "Enable the gamepad" setting under Options > Mouse) translates all JOYSTICK buttons into KEY_* buttons before sending to the server, where it's picked up by PlayerButtonDown

Side note: The server does not know about the joystick/gamepad, it only has the "final" user input stored as a CUserCmd

could a config setting disable using numbers and instead use bumpers to cycle through seats? also yes, i am trying to get analog steering, you can check out my fork here

i looked at the enums and i could see how joystick movement might cause seat switching, seeing how the analog stick enums seem pretty close to the number keys. however, as mentioned in here we have a way to determine if there is a joystick in use by checking if the joystick cvar is 1 and the joystick_force_disabled cvar is 0 by using Player:GetInfoNum( string cVarName, number default ).

additionally, there are the joystick button enums, which would allow the shoulder buttons
KEY_XBUTTON_LEFT_SHOULDER 118
KEY_XBUTTON_RIGHT_SHOULDER 119
to control seat switching and other buttons to control other functions of glide (like ignition, headlights, and trailers)

also, even just a button in glide settings to disable seat switching completely for people who might want to mess with a e2 script like this one

might be a simple and easy workaround

Side note : xmv:getSideSpeed() returns between -10000 and 10000, same for xmv:getForwardSpeed()

we have a way to determine if there is a joystick in use by checking if the joystick cvar is 1 and the joystick_force_disabled cvar is 0 by using Player:GetInfoNum...

Due to the joystick cvar not having a FCVAR_USERINFO flag, it's value is not sent to the server, so it can't be used to disable seat switch inputs there, or to detect if a player is using a controller to use the KEY_XBUTTON_* buttons
