Presentation Notes
Background and College Preparation
A lot of the presenters mentioned they didn't really know much about computer science before high school, which makes me feel better about where I'm at. Most of them got ready for college by taking AP classes, though some also said that doing clubs and other activities outside of class helped them prepare too.
Problem Solving Approach
They talked about how you can make big problems easier by breaking them into smaller pieces and working on one part at a time. Instead of trying to do everything all at once, you just focus on each small step, which makes the whole thing way less stressful.
Watermelon Slice Method
The presenters brought up using watermelon slices to solve problems, which is exactly what Mr. Mort has been teaching us in class. It's cool to know that what we're learning in class is actually what people use in real jobs.
Project Development Challenges
They said one of the hardest parts about making a project is making sure it actually solves a real problem that people have or makes someone's life easier. Finding something that people actually need help with is way harder than just writing the code for it.
Importance of Individual Learning
Some presenters wished they had actually learned computer science properly in high school instead of just letting their teammates do most of the work on projects. They said it's really important to understand the concepts yourself and be able to code on your own, even when you're working in a group.
