Thank you for reporting this issue! We've confirmed the problem and submitted a fix.

The help text for the --with-api-key flag now includes a clear usage example showing how to provide your API key by piping it. This should make it much easier to understand how to use this feature.

The fix is now under review: CortexLM/cortex-cli#54
