We currently use MkDocs (via 'Material for MkDocs').
It sounds like some of the core developers behind 'Material for MkDocs' have moved to a new project called zensical.
See announcement here: Zensical – A modern static site generator built by the Material for MkDocs team
Part of the rationale for this is some limitations with the underlying MkDocs library, as well as some internal maintainer drama as well, and the status / future of mkdocs is currently a little unclear: Is MkDocs still maintained?
I don't think particularly urgent to deal with - (and not really a huge issue, given all the content is largely in *.md files etc). But perhaps need to think about an alternative doc generator at some point.
