Hi Nick, thanks for all the support and tutorials you provide on LWE, it really helps with understanding how to use the tool. I'm curious, do you intend to add any Raman effects to LWE? As it's not an instantaneous or uni-directional effect, I imagine it's harder to implement. Otherwise, do you have any guidance on how it could be implemented or the issues we may run into, as it's something we are interested to try. |

Hi there, I had some discussions about implementing raman effects some time before. It's certainly possible, but will need a special propagation mode to account for them properly. It would basically amount to having a more detailed treatment of the dispersion of the third-order nonlinearity than there is now. Currently, the dispersion of chi(3) is just approximated by that of chi(1), which works pretty well off-resonance. This means that the absorption lines forming the response are taken from linear absorption. Instead, we should use a different set of resonances, the Raman modes, when calculating chi(3) effects. If you have a particular crystal you'd be interested in looking at, it could be a test case. What we'd need is a detailed data set describing the location of the resonances, and ideally measurements that sample the frequency-dependence of the chi(3) tensor... |

Hi there!
This section is here for questions that you don't want to make an "Issue" about on the other tab over there, or other ideas, or just chatting about nonlinear optics.
