Some tests are broken on MacOS ARM

I marked some tests as broken on MacOS ARM systems. Concretely, some tests are marked as @test_broken/@test_skip in

• test/ifelsemasks.jl
• test/shuffleloadstores.jl

in #563 and others are marked similarly in

• test/staticsize.jl

in #562. It would be good to find out the root causes and fix them.

I was working on resolving test failures for test/ifelsemasks.jl. There are two issues in that:

1. condstore! failure : I think these failure are due to foating point reassociation differences and as the value differ only slightly from expected I think we can relax the tests from strict equality to approximate equality (≈).

2. Bernoulli_logit failures: This should be due to mismatch in representation. Vector{Bool} is loaded as <W x i8> containing 0x00 / 0x01 and the ARM NEON using BSL requires all-ones mask (0xFF) for "True". So, Passing 0x01 to BSL should be causing bit mixing (selecting LSB from True & upper 7 bits from False) which results in output nearly equal to False.
   To fix this should we in masks.jl in VectorizationBase.jl add something like:

@inline function vifelse(m::Vec{W,Bool}, v1::Vec{W,T}, v2::Vec{W,T}) where {W,T}
    vifelse(m != zero(m), v1, v2)
end

This will ensure that 0x01 is converted to 0xFF

The difference is 1 unit in last place (ULP). For example, in the failure log, the values are ...4660.208257909836 vs ...4660.208257909837. This diifference could be because scalar code for ARM could be using separate fmul and fadd instructions (two rounding steps), while vector path would generate FMA, which performs a single rounding, whereas for x86 it could be using FMA for both

Investigation Report - ARM Test Failures

I've conducted extensive local testing on Apple M-series hardware (aarch64) to investigate the reported issues. Here are the findings:

Issue 1: condstore! Floating-Point Differences

Status: Could NOT reproduce

Tested with 5 different random seeds across both Float32 and Float64:

• All tests pass perfectly with exact equality (0.0 absolute difference)
• This suggests the issue may have been fixed in recent updates, or requires very specific conditions to trigger

Recommendation: Consider changing @test_broken to @test with approximate equality, or investigate further on other ARM platforms.

Status: CONFIRMED and REPRODUCIBLE ✅

BitVector (FAILS consistently):

Seed 42:  Baseline: -26.29, AVX: -26.91, Diff: 0.62 (2.4% relative error)
Seed 123: Baseline: -27.52, AVX: -29.94, Diff: 2.42 (8.8% relative error)  
Seed 456: Baseline: -26.06, AVX: -28.16, Diff: 2.10 (8.1% relative error)

Vector{Bool} (PASSES perfectly):

All seeds: Diff: ~1e-15 (only floating-point rounding errors)

Root Cause Confirmed

Your understanding is spot-on:

1. BitVector stores bools as individual bits (packed)
2. When loaded into SIMD registers, they become <W x i8> with values 0x00 or 0x01
3. ARM NEON BSL (Bit Select) expects all-ones masks (0xFF) for "True"
4. When given 0x01, BSL selects LSB from "True" and upper 7 bits from "False"
5. This causes incorrect bit mixing and significant computational errors

Why Vector{Bool} Works

Vector{Bool} stores each boolean as a full byte (0x01 or 0x00), which works correctly with the existing conversion logic.

Thanks. In this case, it sounds reasonable to me to relax the test a little bit. I would prefer relaxing it just as much as required to make it work with 1 ULP errors instead of using ≈ for the tests (which would relax the requirements even further).
