As I'm getting ready to create a handful of small mods, this functionality would really come in handy

There are a bunch of files in the repo that are more GTNH-specific that will be imported when cloning. Currently, it's recommended to use the zip files from the releases. There is some stuff we should change before flipping the switch.

What needs to be done? Is there a way to make GitHub exclude certain files from template repositories when using them?
